Todd's Tip of the Month

One of the most common goals for many golfers is to attain more distance with one or more clubs in their bag. Of all the students that I see regularly many of them suffer from excessive grip tension. Quick self check...Do you have any rough spots on your grips? Do you seem to pull the ball or hit wild slices when you are trying to hit the ball farther? Have any of your golfing buddies ever said "you’re moving your whole body"? Do you have tendonitis in one or both arms? All of these symptoms can usually diagnose excessive pressure. Here is a quick tip. First grab any long club in your bag. Instead of holding the grip, take your normal grip down by the head. Take a few practice swings just above the level of the ground. Listen closely for the "swoosh" in your swing. The faster the swing the higher the pitch. Experiment with lightening the pressure in the grip and listen for the now higher pitched whistle. You'll notice that their is a direct correlation between the speed of the club and ho firmly the club is being held.
