Junior Club

Championship

September 6th, 2008

Fourteen Juniors participated in the inaugural Junior Club Championship at Black Creek Club this year.  There were age divisions for 9 & under, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, and 16-17.  Those 11 and under played the green tees for 9 holes, the 12-13 year olds played the gold tees for 18 holes, and those age 14 and over played the gray tees for 18 holes.  Anyone playing for the overall Junior Championship played 18 holes from the gray tees.  Every junior was treated to a lunch and tee prize for participating.  Congratulations go to Garrett Carmichael, Walker Frederick, and Charlie Wood for winning their age divisions, and a special congratulation goes to Scott Stevens, who won both his age division and the overall Junior Championship for 2008.  Thank you to everyone who participated!

Black Creek Cup

Member/Guest

2008

Black Creek once again played host to its signature tournament, the Black Creek Cup.  Festivities started on Thursday evening with the Men’s dinner and team buy.  The teams played two 9-hole matches on Friday followed by the couples’ dinner and dance, where the band “No Big Deal” performed to rave reviews.  Saturday was filled with 3 intense 9-hole matches which left several teams in contention to win their flight.  Sunday, the last day of tournament, also had it’s share of excitement with an 18-hole scramble in the morning and the Championship Shootout in the afternoon.  Several teams scored well in the scramble, most notably the team of Darrel Atchley and Braden Smith, who shot an incredible 15 under-par 57.  The Championship Shootout consisted of the eight flight winners, a wild card, and a “Lucky Dog”, with all teams playing an alternate shot format.  Two teams were eliminated on both the first and second shootout holes, and then one team per hole after that.  Ties were broken using a chip-off/putt-off.  Congratulations to the Shootout Championship winners Bo Ellis and Bill Worley, who were also the Third Flight Champions.  Thank you to everyone who participated and we look forward to hosting this great event next year!

Congratulations to the 2008 Black Creek Club Challenge Cup Team!

This year’s Challenge Cup was full of excitement and achievements.  After Saturday’s four-ball and alternate-shot format matches, the team scores for both Black Creek and Signal Mountain were tied at thirteen.  The individual match play matches held on Sunday were the deciding factor in the competition, and provided Black Creek with their 28½ to 23½ victory.  Thank you to the Black Creek membership for their support and interest in this event and also a special thank you to Gary Haskew, Captain of the Black Creek Team.
